Monthly Interactive Course with Dr. Deva Boone
We’ve launched a free, live Parathyroid Education Course on a Facebook, with short talks plus open Q&A every third Tuesday of the month. Dr. Boone will cover diagnosis, imaging, surgery, recovery, supplements, and “borderline” lab scenarios—everything patients and families ask about most.
Why we’re doing this
Parathyroid disease is common, confusing, and very treatable. This course is designed to replace scattered internet searches with clear, evidence-based guidance from a high-volume parathyroid surgeon. Each session includes a short, plain-English talk followed by live Q&A, so you can get answers in real time.
How it works
Tip: Ask your questions early! Dr. Boone will get to as many as she can during the session.
Topics we’re covering
We’ve already kicked off with:
- Introduction to the Parathyroid Glands
- Primary Hyperparathyroidism (pHPT)
Coming up next (order designed to build from basics → decisions → recovery → special cases):
- Secondary Hyperparathyroidism (how to diagnose, causes, and treatment)
- Normocalcemic Hyperparathyroidism (diagnosing parathyroid disease when the calcium is “normal,” distinguishing primary vs. secondary normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism, and treatment)
- Confusing Labs & Borderline Presentations (how to approach labs that don’t quite fit the classic pattern)
- Familial/Genetic Causes & FHH (when and how to test for genetic causes)
- Parathyroid Imaging (what imaging can and can’t do; including ultrasound, sestamibi, SPECT/CT, 4D-CT, PET)
- Parathyroid Surgery 101 (surgery techniques, approaches, anesthesia, what to ask your surgeon, risks of surgery)
- After Parathyroid Surgery (what to expect, supplements, activity, and follow-up)
- Persistent/Recurrent HPT & Re-operation (why it happens, advanced imaging, what to expect)
- Calcium & Vitamin D Supplementation (label math, dosing, forms, kidney stone and CKD considerations)
- Bone Health & Osteoporosis in Parathyroid Disease (assessing bone loss, expected improvement after surgery)
Who should attend
- Patients who have (or might have) parathyroid disease
- Anyone with high calcium, low calcium, or “confusing” labs
- Families and caregivers who want clear next steps
- Clinicians who want a concise, patient-friendly update
What you’ll learn
You’ll learn how parathyroid disease is diagnosed, when imaging helps, who benefits from surgery, and how to recover smoothly. We can’t give one-size-fits-all medical advice, since your care must be individualized, but you’ll leave knowing the right questions to ask and how to move forward.
